The difficulty of doctoral studies in the Czech Republic: case study of study obligations in political science, sociology and social work programs
Brych, Jan ; Veselý, Arnošt (advisor) ; Doleček, Pavel (referee)
The diploma thesis examines the difficulty of study obligations of doctoral study programs in political science, sociology, and social work across the Czech Republic. The research problem lies in the examination of the difficulty of study obligations in the context of problematic factors of Czech doctoral studies. The main objective of the thesis is to compare the study obligations of the above-mentioned study programs, to reveal formal and informal institutions that influence the setting of study obligations in doctoral studies with the help of the theory of historical institutionalism, and to find out why publication obligations are part of the study obligations in the Czech Republic. Information from 17 qualitative interviews with representatives of the subject-area boards of the examined study programs and with experts in doctoral studies was analyzed using the method of qualitative content analysis. The results of the primary research are complemented by findings from the research survey Doktorandi 2021, which relates to the study obligations of doctoral students. The results of the research show that study obligations differ between the fields of political science, sociology, and social work only in minor details. The setting of study obligations in the Czech Republic is influenced by formal...

Praha, 2022. 50 s. Diplomová práce (Mgr.). Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut mezinárodních studií. Katedra německých a rakouských studií. Vedoucí diplomové práce doc. Mgr. Tomáš Weiss, M.A., Ph.D. Abstract The question of the different attitudes towards Jerusalem and the historical relationship with Israel between the Czech Republic and Slovakia seems to be primarily a question of stabilization and destabilization of power (and differently applied ideological control) of communist Czechoslovakia of 1948-1989, with the radical break with in 1989, resp. after its division in 1992 into two successor states. The main goal of this thesis was to compare these attitudes using methods and approaches of historical institutionalism. The way in which the institutional environment for foreign policy-making was set up at the beginning of the 1990s in the form of a commitment to continuity with Czechoslovak foreign policy after 1992. Natural non-institutional factors such as the specific role of the presidency or the stability of the executive environment in the successor states naturally played another role, but from the point of view...
Assisted reproduction from the perspective of the target groups
Lazárková, Gabriela ; Dobiášová, Karolína (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Eva (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to describe policy design of assisted human reproduction in the Czech Republic in the frame of two examined groups: 1) women undergoing this procedure, 2) service providers. The goals are also to identify the policy framework of assisted human reproduction in the political environment. The theory background is supported by the theory of social construction of the target audience written by the authors Ingram and Schneider and the analysis of the framework by Rein and Schon. The legislation of assisted human reproduction is covered mostly in the period of 2011 - 2021. The analytical part of this work is based on systematic expert surveys, questionnaire surveys and analysis of stenographic records. The benefits and drawbacks arising from the legislations, political power and social constructions in relation to both examined groups are formulated in the paper's results. Furthermore, two competing policy frameworks are identified during the debate of amendments to the Act on Specific health Services and the Act on Public Health Insurance.
Berlin Plus - Relevant or Obsolete Mechanism of EU-NATO relations?
Hložková, Veronika ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the verification of the relevance of the Berlin Plus Agreements, which became the official mechanism for the implementation of European Union- led operations using NATO's planning capabilities in 2003. To determine the relevance, I set out three aspects. The first assesses this mechanism by its use in practice in the form of military missions. The following perspective examines it from the perspective of involvement in planning and its occurrence in the key documents of both organizations. The last one looks for his presence in the professional discourse. I use assumptions based on historical institutionalism to determine the causes of the present state of relevance of these agreements. These include, in particular, an emphasis on historical and contextual assessment of the empirical survey, path- dependency, and unintended consequences. With this research set up, I have come to the conclusion that the Berlin Plus Agreement is partially relevant from today's perspective. I came up with the result after the Berlin Plus mechanism was not assessed positively by a single criterion. At the same time, however, it has proved that its existence has helped to maintain communication and a certain level of cooperation between the two organizations at times when there was no...
International Regimes against Trafficking in Human Beings: European Experience
Prixová, Barbora ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
The target of this research is to reveal causal factors that influence the way policy goals and instruments of international organizations in the domain of human trafficking are designed. By tracking evolutions of anti-trafficking policies undergone by the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the thesis demonstrates impact of specific factors on changes in the functioning of international organizations. To unravel mechanism explaining the internal workings of a policy formation within an IO, the thesis considers and tests theoretical assumptions of three rivalling theories on institutions; the realism, historical institutionalism and neoliberal institutionalism. Premises of respective theories, which offer contrasting perspectives on the functioning of international organizations, will help to formulate corresponding independent variables. The dependant variable being the changing design of institutions, the detailed cross-case analysis spanning a period of one decade uncovers causal relations between independent dependent variables. Thus, by means of time series data collection, patterns revealing which of independent variables can be designed as responsible for observed changes becomes visible. In this way, the study is able to answer to what extent...

Dobiášová, Karolína ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Dlouhý, Martin (referee) ; Křečková, Naděžda (referee)
This Ph.D. thesis discusses the evolution and current situation regarding availability of healthcare for third countries migrants in the Czech Republic. In terms of methodology, the author has chosen a qualitative approach. The research design is a historical case study. The thesis uses a combination of "desk research" and empirical survey based on 56 in-depth interviews with migrants, healthcare providers and experts who come into contact with migrants during the course of their work. Based on the approach of historical institutionalism, the author is explaining policy of migrants' health insurance evolution in Czech Republic since 1993 till today. The author identifies the key events and the roles of particular actors within the observed "sub- system" of public policy. From the viewpoint of migrants and healthcare providers, the thesis also presents how the current institutionalised set-up of migrants' health policy transfers into the real access to healthcare for migrants. It also identifies the main barriers to health care accessibility and the consequences of possible health care unavailability. Key words: migrants, health care availability, health insurance, historical institutionalism, barriers to health care access
Social Housing in the Czech Republic - The Story of one Law
Šrédlová, Jana ; Kotrusová, Miriam (advisor) ; Šojdrová, Michaela (referee)
Diploma thesis "Social Housing in the Czech republic - a story of one law" deals with an issue of attempting to adopt a law of social housing in the Czech Republic. The thesis is based on historical institutionalism approach that identifies institutions as the essential factors on development of an enviroment where the formulations of design of the social housing policy come from. The analytical part follows a pattern of social constructivism and applies the features of discoursive analysis. The conclusions drawn from the analysis indicate that there are two dominant discoursive frames which influence the public policy debates on how to deal with the problem of non-existence of social housing in the Czech Republic. One discoursive frame points out the liberal perspective which is based broadly speaking on economical calculus and importance of individual deservedness. The second - social - frame promotes the principles of social cohesion and solidarity with the most vulnerable groups in society. These perspectives influence the shapes of suggested policy arrangements that are presented as a solution of an inaccesability of housing for specific groups in society and most likely determine possible controversions in the future.
